Code of Conduct
of the University Library in Poznań
I. General Principles:
- On the premises of the University Library (hereinafter referred to as “BUP”) rules of public order, social coexistence and personal culture – especially keeping quiet, not disturbing other BUP Users, must be obeyed. The Library shall be used accordingly to its intended purpose.
- Users are obliged to abide by the Rules governing the use of AMU library and information system, Rules governing access to and use of the BUP collections, comply with BUP rules of conduct, directives of the Director of BUP and comments and messages from BUP employees.
- BUP employees, including librarians and security guards, are entitled to address Users’ behavior, and in justified cases, refuse the right to be on the premises of the Library to Users who violate regulations specified in point 2. as well as other legal provisions.
- Failure to comply with the rules defined in point 2., as well as other legal provisions, may lead to temporary or indefinite deprivation of rights arising from having a library card, with the possibility of referring the matter to legal proceedings.
II. Users are obliged to:
- Leave outer garments, but also backpacks, briefcases, bags, personal handbags, etc. in the cloakroom or deposit lockers. The clothes locker needs to be emptied by the User before the closing hours of BUP. In case of occupying the locker after the library closes, to maintain the security of the facility, BUP reserves the right to open the locker in the presence of a commission and charge the User a fee for replacing the lock, in accordance with the current BUP list of fees. The contents of the locker will be deposited in BUP. A person collecting items from the locker needs to describe them in detail and confirm their receipt in the locker opening protocol. BUP cloakroom does not provide a deposit service for valuables and does not accept, for storage purposes, the following objects:

- money, keys, documents;
- jewelry and other valuables;
- electronic equipment (e.g. computers, laptops, mobile phones), photographic equipment and other valuable specialised equipment;
- vehicles (e.g. scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, strollers etc.);
- objects that may cause harm to third parties or their property, especially through damage or contamination, as well as causing destruction or contamination of the cloakroom;
- food products, luggage and clothing with a strong or unpleasant odor;
- ignitable objects, flammable, explosive, corrosive or other dangerous materials;
- objects that are difficult to store in the cloakroom because of their size or characteristic features.
- Bringing in private materials and personal belongings on the premises of the Library is possible only with the special basket that is available on site in the BUP’s cloakroom. Following the completion of work, the basket should be returned to the cloakroom in the designated place.
- Not disturb other Users of the BUP and to use the Library accordingly to its intended purpose.
- Put mobile phones and other electronic devices on silent mode.
- Maintain silence on the BUP premises.
- Be careful when handling library collections, the Library’s equipment and supplies, and keep hands and outer clothing clean. Maintain order at user’s workplace, return used items only to designated areas (library carts, librarian stations in reading rooms).
- Ensure the toilets are left in a clean condition.
III. It is forbidden to:
- Behave in a way that is disruptive to other Users, that may include, among others, engaging in loud conversations, using mobile phones and other electronic devices in a loud manner, taking off shoes in all library access units and deliberately rearranging or hiding books and magazines.
- Cause any action resulting in damage to BUP property, especially to library materials while using them (e.g. highlighting the text, spreading books out with the spines facing up, scanning by spreading the book excessively toward the scanner, damaging the stitching or gluing of the spine).
- Bring in and consume food and beverages (except for water in a sealed bottle or other similar container) in all library access units. Eating meals (only cold, that do not cause odors to spread) as well as warm and cold beverages is allowed in “BUkawka” or “Behind-the-Pillar Lounge”.
- Bring dangerous objects into BUP (e.g. weapons, knives, gas sprays etc.).
- Smoke tobacco products and e-cigarettes, take intoxicants and consume alcohol.
- Enter the Library while intoxicated, under the influence of intoxicating substances, or with clear signs of poor personal hygiene.
- Conduct photo and video sessions of the Library’s building (including its interiors) for commercial purposes, except for souvenir photos for personal use, without prior written consent from the Director of the BUP.
- Plug out computers and peripheral devices located on the BUP premises.
- Use electronic devices that are not part of the BUP equipment, except for laptop power adapters and chargers, tablets or phones, under the condition that they are used for work purposes only.
- Leave personal belongings unattended. BUP shall not be held liable for any loss or damage to property left without supervision, as well as valuable objects left in deposit locker.
- Take library collections, as well as objects and devices owned by BUP, outside the premises of BUP – without completing the required formalities.
